Welcome Back Sustainers!
By Sheri Shoup, Sustainer Chair and Jamie Adams Bonham, Sustainer Liaison

We hope you had a relaxing summer. Please join us at our Sustainer Welcome Back events: Breakfast, September 23 at 9 a.m., JLM Headquarters; and Wine & Cheese Reception, September 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Michelle Ramirez-Patricios. You will hear about all the exiting opportunities to socialize and volunteer with fellow Sustainers and Actives, including a new orchid training series by Sustainer Liaison Jamie Adams Bonham!

The JLM Sustainer Book Club will continue to meet bi-monthly at members’ homes for lively discussions on selected books off their well-chosen book list. They are nearing capacity, so if you have an interest in participating, or would like a copy of this year’s book list, please contact Maureen Gragg for more information, at Maureen@wdigitech.com.

Anyone interested in participating in the bridge club, please contact the winner of last year's tournament, Holly Evans.

We would also like to thank all the Sustainers who are serving as advisors to our Committees and Councils.

If you have any questions, please contact us...we’re in the JLM Directory!

The Year in Review from Sustainer Co-chairs 2007-08: Morgan Park Smith and Sondra Space

JLM Sustainers had a fabulous year!  Our mission this year was to incorporate as many volunteer activities into the Sustainer schedule as possible.  We found that when many women go from being Actives to Sustainers, what is missed the most about the League is the opportunity to help our community become a better place for women, children, and families.  But we had many remedies!  Through Done-In-A-Day (DIAD) activities as well as our community project opportunities, there were many chances to jump back into our volunteer days and get involved again—even if only for an hour or two!  It was awesome to see Sustainers at many of these events.

In addition, of course, were many social events!  We would not be Sustainers if we did not enjoy seeing our JLM friends in a variety of settings.  Listed below are some of the events that Sustainers attended:

  • Sustainer Coffee at the home of Allison Freeland, Tuesday, September 25, 2007
  • Sustainer Wine and Cheese at the home of Lauren Harrison Genovese, September 27, 2007
  • Fourth Annual Junior League of Miami Golf Tournament, October 12, 2007
  • JLM Foundation, Wine and Cheese Reception, Thursday, October 18, 2007
  • Race for the Cure, Downtown Miami, Saturday, October 20, 2007
  • Fall Trends Fashion Show, Merrick Park, Thursday, October 25, 2007
  • Biscayne Nature Center Tour, Sunday, October 28, 2007
  • Miami: Who Makes a Magic City, The Biltmore Hotel, Friday, November 16, 2007
  • Holiday Teddy Bear Event at JLM Headquarters on Saturday, December 8, 2007
  • Sustainer Holiday Party at the home of Betty Park on Thursday, December 13, 2007
  • The Grand Opening Gala for the latest Nordstrom store opening on February 13, 2008
  • Trip to the Palm Beach Antique and Jewelry Show on February 16, 2008
  • Spring Fling at the home of Amy Sussman on Friday, March 7, 2008
  • Wine Tasting: Girls Wine Out at the home of Allison Holly, April 10, 2008
  • Seventh Annual Women Who Make a Difference Awards Luncheon: Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Ritz Carlton in Coconut Grove
  • Inside InStyle Miami, Saturday and Sunday, April 19 – 20, 2008, on Miami Beach
  • Book Clubs run by Margaret Nee and Anna Ehlert
  • Bridge Club run by Nancy Sabia

We were privileged to oversee Sustainer activities for the 2007 – 2008 Junior League of Miami year.  We wish Sustainers a safe and enjoyable summer, and we look forward to seeing you next fall at our first JLM Sustainer event!

Warmest regards,
Morgan Park Smith and Sondra Space
